unable to connect supervised ipad to another computer

Have a bunch of supervised iPads across several schools and started getting complaints that staff can no longer connect iPads to computers(running Windows) to take images/videos off. Ipads were setup with allow connecting to another computer enabled and staff were able to take pictures and videos off.

Have tried myself and confirmed this is no longer possible for them.

The only change I can thing of is update from ios7 to 8. I have ensured the supervison mac is up to date, including updating configurator, the configuration profile and refreshing the profile installation on the ipads.

Is there something that was brought into iOS8 to prevent connection to a computer or is there some part of my configuration that needs updating?

Currently have to connect to the supervising mac to get images off which is less than ideal

Any suggestions gratefully received!

What is the error message exactly?

Have you tried isolating the issue by taking an iPad, completely reset and unsupervised and see if it connects to the Windows workstation? My thought is that perhaps it could be iTunes version. I know with recent versions, there's been some wonkiness with 32-bit vs 64-bit versions of iTunes.

Anyway, just a thought to help you isolate what the actual issue may be.
